COVERSHIP insights on sustainable yachting at the 2nd Monaco Smart Yacht Event
1th April 2024
In the iconic Yacht Club of Monaco took place the second edition of the Monaco Smart Yacht rendez-vous on the 21st and 22nd of March, 2024
Our Managing Partner, Vincent Huens de Brouwer joined industry experts focusing on how technology could steer yachting towards greater sustainability, significantly reducing carbon emissions through a yacht’s lifespan—from construction to recycling.
Here are some key insights from Vincent:
All for one, one for all : The who’s who of the yachting community was there with the big names of superyacht shipyards, top engine manufacturers, mixing up with innovative start-ups, scale-ups, and strategic investors engaged in meaningful dialogue to make things better together
Diversity fuels strength: Cross-industry collaboration seems to be the key to future greener yachting. Indeed, this event saw a melting pot of experts from sailing, shipping, and the automotive sectors sharing their advanced technologies to enhanced yachting sustainability
Many paths, one wisdom : The tomorrow yacht propulsion debate still remains open but a consensus is emerging . With a significant number of alternative propulsion technologies to fully or partly replace fossil fuels – from battery electric, HVO biofuels, hydrogen fuel cells, hybrid systems combined with advanced generation of diesel engines, sail-driven, to solar panels – our manufacturers are preparing for a future where not just one, but multiple propulsion systems may co-exist, tailoring yacht engines and engine rooms to accommodate an owner’s preference.
Simpler is better : As the event celebrated the most innovative start/scale up, it was two low-tech innovators who were awarded by the jury. These winners were celebrated for their practical, attainable, and eco-friendly technologies, showing that simplicity can indeed pave the way toward a more sustainable yachting industry.
Very inspirational ! Monaco leads the charge in yachting innovation and ocean protection, as demonstrated at the Smart Yacht Rendezvous. Hosted by M3 Monaco Marina Management at the Yacht Club of Monaco, the event took place during Monaco Ocean Week.
